Montara State beach, California

unidentified fossil metacarpal (or metatarsal) from Montara Beach, Montara, California.
I've taken this to UC Berkeley to see if anyone there could identify it
and the closest we could come was something likely plantigrade (such as a bear)

According to the USGS quad map of Montara Mountain in March 1980
Charles Repenning found the fossil remains of Smilidon (Sabertooth Tiger) on the exact spot

These were found slightly higher and further inland from the other site.
Though they look and feel very old, I'm not entirely sure if these are fossils or modern remains.
There is one rib, some splintered bits I think that might be parts of leg bones,
and a small bit of shell that is very commonly found in the area.
